Magat-Lapid is FILAMEDA’s Prexy

The Filipino American Educators Association of San Diego (FILAMEDA) had its newly-elected officers sworn into office by Ms. JoAnn Fields on Saturday, 19 January 2013. Inducted to serve for the 2013-2015 term are the following:

A graduate of San Diego State University (B.A. in Liberal Studies, with specialization in Deaf Ed.) and an M.Ed. in Curriculum Writing and Instruction from Alliant International University, Ms. Jacquilin Magat-Lapid is a Filipino Language Teacher at Bell Middle School since 2005 where she was a recipient of the “Teacher of the Year 2012 Award” and was San Diego Unified School District “2012 District Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist”. Prior to her being at the helm of FILAMEDA, she was its Vice-President and has acted in other various positions.

Jackie is an active member of the Foreign Language Council of San Diego (FLCSD), Gawad Kalinga USA, and the Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC), among other professional and community organizations. In 2010 she participated at the 14th World Language Curriculum Instruction Conference in Pécs, Hungary where is also presented a paper entitled “Gawad Kalinga: A Community Building Entrepreneurship for Social and Civic Responsibility Among the Youth”.

Kapamilyang CTFLC extends its hearty congratulations to the newly-elected FILAMEDA Officers and Board of Directors which include CTFLC members --- Michael Lapid,  Sweetwater School District Substitute Teacher; Susan Chrismen, a Student Teacher; Gloria Guilas, a Filipino Teacher at Morse High School and San Diego Mesa College; and Virginia Ferrer, a retired teacher in Filipino and now writes poems for the Asian Journal and other newspapers in San Diego.

“Dalawang Baybayin/Two Shores”, a Virtual intercultural Exchange Program a Success!

The Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) and San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) held its virtual Closing Program for the Dalawang Baybayin/Two Shores, a Virtual Intercultural Exchange Program this year on May 20 & 21, 2022, both San Diego and Philippines via Zoom. Two countries, the Philippines and the United States, worked for seven months.  The project started with a virtual kickoff on October 15, 2021.  The project was participated in by schools from the Philippines and schools from Sweetwater Union High School District, San Diego Unified School District, and Poway Unified School District.  The schools from San Diego were Bonita Vista, Eastlake High School, Eastlake Middle, Olympian High School, Otay Ranch High School, and Sweetwater High School.  These schools are from Sweetwater Union High School District.  From Poway Unified School district were Mr. Carmel High School and Westview High School.  From the San Diego Un...
