CTFLC Despedida Party for Ms. Carole Caparros and Dr. Ofelia Rayos

Mendoza   June 17, 2021, Thursday, CTFLC bid adieu to Ms. Carole Caparros and Dr. Ofelia Rayos who are going back to stay in the Philippines for good.   As part of our Filipino tradition when somebody leaves or departs, we always send them good vibes. Hence, a reason to have food and party. CTFLC members gathered at Seaside Buffet, Miramar, San Diego.   Gng. Maria Fontimayor mentioned in her FB post “ We will both miss you but you will always be with us as we have other gatherings like this.  May God bless you on your trip back to the Philippines, and may you reach home safely. We will see you again soon. Bon Voyage.”   Ms. Caparros worked at Alliant International University and The Filipino School. FIL 7-8 Honors offered at Otay Ranch High School and Sweetwater High

June 17, 2021     |Gng. Mendoza   MAY 2021, Ms. Mary Rose Peralta, Otay Ranch Principal, broke the news to the Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) that  UC San Diego approved the FIL 7-8 Honors. Ms. Peralta advocated to have FILIPINO 7-8 Honors in her school  and pushed CTFLC to work on the course description, which was submitted to UC San Diego by Ms.Troy Mason, APEX District Coordinator in the Curriculum and Instruction at Sweetwater Union High School District.   CTFLC Curriculum Committee headed by Gng. Mendoza with the cooperation of CTFLC educators worked and formulated the course description before and during summer break.  Most of the discussion and brainstorming of ideas were done virtually. Bingo Social Fundraiser

Bingo Social Fundraiser at de Vera’s Residence 6/14/2021    | Gng. Mendoza June 12, 2021, Saturday, after a long period of time being cooped up at home due to home quarantine, finally, the Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) members were able to gather together at Gng. Salvacion De Vera’s residence.  The Fundraising Committee headed by Gng. Virginia Ferrer, Bb. Blancaflor Villanueva and Gng. Salvacion de Vera,  planned a Bingo fundraiser to raise money for CTFLC’s professional development and other activities.    Although it was attended by a handful of members, the gathering was filled with laughter and never-ending chikahan. Of course, Filipino food satisfied our hungry stomach. On the table, sumptuous food such as igado (stewed pork and liver), pinakbet, and pancit bihon. Gng. Lita Candelaria arrived with her hot steaming arroz caldo with all the condiments and Gng. Aurora Cruz with her sweet biko. There was no such thing as a diet in this kind of atmosphere! 

FLASP Ukelele Recital

June 14, 2021 |Gng. Mendoza Last June 9, 2021, at  Montevalle Community Park,  the after-school program headed by Filipino Language After-School Program (FLASP) held its first recital after 7 weeks of grueling but fun ukulele lessons. The class was taught every Wednesday at 3:00- 4:00pm at Montevalle Community Park.  Its goal was to teach Filipino Language through music. Most of the students were from Zamorano Fine Arts Academy and Salt Creek Elementary School. CTFLC President Rizalyn Cruz wholeheartedly expressed her gratitude towards the leaders of this program namely, Mrs. Dolores Balane who is the chairperson of the committee, Dr. Julita Biares who patiently taught ukulele to elementary school students, and Mrs. Margarita Idos who provided assistance. Also, she thanked Mrs. Marilyn Sevilla for teaching the Filipino language component of the curriculum for the first 3-4 weeks before the COVID- 19 lockdown.  Many parents attended the recital enjoying the children’s English and Filipi
