Community of Practice (CoP) 2018

Last Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the International Student Center, San Diego State University, Southern Area International Language Network (SAILN) hosted CoP 2018. Different foreign language organizations gathered together to provide updates and reports regarding activities and programs that enriched and strengthened teaching of foreign languages and culture.
 
This event was well-attended by different groups namely:
  1. Arabic Language Group
  2. Dari/Pashto Language Group
  3. Filipino Language Group
  4. Mandarin Language Group
  5. Persian Language Group
  6. Portuguese Language Group
  7. Heritage/Native Spanish Speaker Group
Dr. Mathias Schulze, Director of the Language Acquisition and Resource Center (LARC) of San Diego State University, encouraged members to invite more participants and to continue an engaging foreign language program.
 
Myrna Ablana, CTFLC President (2017-2018), and CTFLC members namely Susan Chrismen, Rizalyn Cruz, Rosalina Idos, Salvador Idos represented the Filipino Language Group.
 
Rizalyn Cruz, CTFLC member, showcased different activities done by CTFLC.  She mentioned about the cultural shows put up by different schools in Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD)  and San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). These programs empowered students to be proud of their language and culture. Furthermore, she  also talked about the Magkaisa Conference organized by SUHSD. Finally, Mr. Salvador Idos discussed the CTFLC After School Program at Salt Creek Elementary School.
 
Indeed, CoP 2018 successfully celebrated the accomplishments of different foreign language group.
