CSDFEA Celebrates Philippine Independence Day 2012

The Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) once again participated in the Independence Day Celebration hosted by the County of San Diego Filipino-American Employees Association (CSDFEA) on June 8, 2012.  The day’s activities at the West Lawn of the County Administrative Center in San Diego are well attended by Filipinos as well as other nationalities, which makes the event more diverse.  CTFLC members occupy two booths, which display posters about Filipino immigration, food, festivals, and culture.

We congratulate the organizers headed by Ms. Lita Santos, CSDFEA President, and Mr. Juanito Amor, Coordinator, Volunteer & Public Services, Language Services Division, County of San Diego, Registrar of Voters, for a successful event, as we likewise thank them for the invitation to participate in this celebration.

Mary Rose Peralta Receives the “Bayani Natin Award

The Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) gives full support to Ms. Mary Rose Peralta, Granger Junior High School Principal and CTFLC member, during the Mabuhay Fil-Am Festival this June 9, 2012 at Kimball Park, National City.  This year’s celebration honoring the 114th Philippine Independence, with the theme “Pinoy Tayo – Kaya Natin”, had Ms. Ditas Yamane, and Mr. Carlos Mangonon as Chair and Co-Chair, respectively.

Mabuhay Fil-Am Festival highlights the “Bayani Natin Award” (Our Hero) bestowed upon five (5) individuals who have done and continue to do exemplary service to the community. Ms. Peralta was recognized for her services, dedication and contribution in the field of Education, with Dr. Ed Brand, Superintendent of the Sweetwater Union High School District, presenting the award. Other awardees include, Dr. Benjamin Camacho (Health Care), with the award presented by National City Mayor Ron Morrison; San Diego Police Dept. Asst. Chief Cesar Solis (Public Safety), by San Diego Police Department Chief William M. Lansdowne; Mr. Julio de Guzman (Business Professional), by San Diego City Attorney Jan I. Goldsmith; and Mr. Bert Andrade (Senior/Military Veteran), by National City Councilmember Rosalie Zarate.

This gathering was likewise graced by the Hon. Consul-General Mary Jo Bernardo Aragon of the Philippine Consulate General who gave a message and handed a Certificate of Appreciation to each of the awardees, on behalf of the Philippine Pres. Benigno Simeon Conjuangco Aquino III (a.k.a Noynoy Aquino or PNoy).  The Mabuhay Club, headed by Bb. Blancaflor Villanueva, Sweetwater High Filipino Teacher, sang the “Lupang Hinirang” in the opening of the program. The day-long event included awards presentation to Filipino-American Sailor Honorees, cultural performances, contests and dances!

“Dalawang Baybayin/Two Shores”, a Virtual intercultural Exchange Program a Success!

The Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) and San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) held its virtual Closing Program for the Dalawang Baybayin/Two Shores, a Virtual Intercultural Exchange Program this year on May 20 & 21, 2022, both San Diego and Philippines via Zoom. Two countries, the Philippines and the United States, worked for seven months.  The project started with a virtual kickoff on October 15, 2021.  The project was participated in by schools from the Philippines and schools from Sweetwater Union High School District, San Diego Unified School District, and Poway Unified School District.  The schools from San Diego were Bonita Vista, Eastlake High School, Eastlake Middle, Olympian High School, Otay Ranch High School, and Sweetwater High School.  These schools are from Sweetwater Union High School District.  From Poway Unified School district were Mr. Carmel High School and Westview High School.  From the San Diego Un...
