Retirement Celebration
"A good teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way for others.” This is significantly true for the Sweetwater Union High School District teachers who retired this 2011.
Our honorees: Mrs. Dolores Balane from Eastlake High School, Ms. Virginia Ferrer from Otay Ranch High School, and Mr. Felizardo Moscoso from Montgomery High School taught Filipino classes and other core subjects. Indeed, they lighted and enriched students’ lives in understanding and appreciating the Filipino language and its cultural heritage.
Members of the Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC), along with guests and friends, celebrated the beginning of their retirement on June 3, 2011 at Tita’s II Restaurant at National City with a program. A Welcome Remarks by CTFLC Pres. Rosalina Idos was followed by an Invocation by Mr. Salvador Idos. Ms. Julita Biares, a Filipino teacher at Morse High School serenaded our honorees with Filipino songs. Mrs. Rosalina Idos, Ms. Jacquilin Magat, and Mrs. Salvacion de Vera, gave testimonials exalting our honorees for their tireless dedication, commitment and valuable service, among others. In addition, our honorees were presented with a token of appreciation which included a plaque, greeting cards, bouquets of flowers, and gift cards.
While this signals the exodus in their teaching career, their dedication to CTFLC and the promotion of the Filipino Language & Culture continue, as we congratulate them for another milestone in their lives.
Cristeta Dumaran, Blancaflor Villanueva, Grace Almazar, Rizalyn Cruz, Farah Mendoza, and Atilio Alicio made up the Organizing Committee for this momentous occasion.
